Re: Unwinnable situations?
Welcome back ralphmerridew. Where have you been? The idea of an unwinnable game is that, under no circumstances, must it be unfunny! The author must try to keep the player caught in the story of the game. I love Monkey Island. Just for the hell of it I walked off a cliff (somewhere) and was bounced ...

Re: Unwinnable situations?
While I do agree with you, Lazzah, whether us "old timers" like it or not, times has changed. There are so many games out there, for free, and, imo, players today have less patience that we did and will most likely discard a game if it appears to be too difficult and move on to the next one. Also, w...

Unwinnable situations?
Would it be fair to the player if there's a puzzle that could lead to the game being unwinnable? :| This is the scenario. The player is standing in front of a door. The only way out of a location. However, there is only one correct way to leave the room (opening the door) and he only has one try. If...

Re: Oct. 31st.
Update Jan 26th Wow, has it been that long? Ok, here's what have been happening. I decided to make a copy of this game in Danish as well and therefore had both the Danish and the English library open. At some point, don't ask me how or why, I managed to merge the two libraries thus totally messing ...

A question about doors
Would it be ok to have different approaches regarding doors in a game, or should the author stick with one solution ? I just discovered that in my next IFComp entry, I have different approaches to the handling of doors. 1: If the player unlocks a door, he automatically opens it and walks into the ad...

Re: Save Game Question
I've just tried it on one of my games.
If you have used a save as, and then use the save command afterwards your future games will be saved under your manually saved game (until you make another save as, that is.)

Re: V.5 Tips & Tricks Proto type
This little trick might be of some help to someone. For instance. In one of my games, I have a very old newspaper. I wanted to give the impression that part of the text had faded away. But in order to give the player a clue as to what the faded word was supposed to say, I had inserted ... instead of...

Re: Will we rule the IFDB?
maybe it will wake them up over there.
Have to say, though, that it has been kind of quiet here too lately. Wonder what people are doing?
IF has its ups and downs through the year, but I would think that winter time would be the perfect time of year to write / play games.

Re: Play Online Error
Could it be something in the converted game, perhaps?
I tried to play JaFT online and had no problem doing so.

Re: Count of all ADRIFT games todate
2013-2015 sure were dark times... We didn't see than many in more recent years either, although the ones that do get completed are getting more substantial and polished. e: just realized this topic was a month old, whoops. Doesn't matter about the age of the topic, Lumin. I believe that the main re...

Re: ADRIFT 5 newcomer advice
I made a search to find post regarding changing the default name of the player and found this:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11510&p=101974&hil ... me#p101974
Is this solution still valid considering the updates that has been made in the meantime?

Making genereal task: Put object under object
In my game the player needs to slide an object under another object in order to solve a puzzle. So I modified an existing general task: "Put object on others" changing it to "Put object under object" I had to give the second object the property "object is a supporter" When I run the task it works as...

Re: Will we rule the IFDB?
The intfiction forum has suffered its usual death, but maybe there will be some life on the IFDB going into the next year. Usually it seems like when I drop in outside the comp it's just Mathbrush. I'm not visiting IntFiction very often. I just HATE the new forum. To me it is so disorganized and pr...
