Re: Ectocomp 2020

I kind of miss when it was an annual Adrift thing, it was one of the more popular contests here and we got some fun little games out of it.

Probably wouldn't be enough people playing/discussing now to bother with our own thing again though.

Pretty sure being new would be all that's needed, the last version has been out in the wild for years and so is looked at as being safer.

Ectocomp 2020

So who's attempting this besides Theo and myself?

I'm actually distressingly busy this month and things just keep piling up, but that four hour category is so hard to walk by...

Re: The Spanish Cross

This sounds really cool. I love historical games, I just never follow the urge to make them myself due to all the research involved. If you're going to be including Columbus himself in the game, there are of course his own journals and those of people he was with as the most reliable first hand sour...

Re: ATTN NEWBS: For missing activation emails, ask in Discord!

So the discord is really hopping these days, we've had a couple of people from the intfiction forums join and they seem to be enjoying a chance to actually talk to other authors like normal human beings without the klaxon wail of some mod's Fun Detector going off. antscoff (or whatever Anthony goes ...

Re: Is there an open source ADRIFT adventure I can learn gamemaking on?

Let us know if you have any specific questions as well so we can be sure you're not getting hung up on anything with a simple fix. Even with an unpassworded game to sift through, it may not always be clear exactly what connects to what. It's entirely possible to put together a straightforward game o...

Re: Events repeat when they shouldn't

It's the task that triggers it you need to set to only happen once.

I'm sure there's other methods but without the program in front of me that's the main one that comes to mind.

Re: 5.0.36 out now

I get so confused when I see people using something that's not Malwarebytes.

Just, why would anyone do that. So weird.

Hey, it looks nice having some discussion in General. Let's not have people assume more than one thread a month is disallowed.

Re: Recommend me some IF!

Well I didn't personally have any trouble with the opening when in played it as someone completely new to IF, but as I said I had a pretty good background with other forms of text and adventure games by that point. It was the guy I was talking to that struggled with it to the point of needing a walk...

Re: Recommend me some IF!

It starts easy? It has the problems of the rest, absolutely no direction or clue of what you supposed are to be doing. The writing is good though. Which part did you get stuck on? It does have some difficult puzzles but the plot itself I don't remember ever stalling out. It had a lot more direction...

Re: Recommend me some IF!

Anchorhead is still my favorite IF game and insanely good, but they got stuck on Jacaranda Jim so at that point I wasn't sure how much familiarity there was with the more classic/traditional kind of IF or I would've recommended it. I've recently had it suggested to me by an otherwise very intelligen...

Re: Recommend me some IF!

But for a non ADRIFT game, look up Nightfall on the IFDB. It's one of my all time favorites, and even though it was made years ago contains quality of life features to make certain things (navigating the city, mainly) so much easier I always wonder why the heck they never caught on. Edit: btw, in Ja...

Re: Recommend me some IF!

....now I have to know what the offensive subject matter was. And you should really try Theo's game Skybreak. It was nominated for Best Game in the the XYZZY awards this year, and has gotten a lot of attention from other communities, pretty rare for an ADRIFT game. And one of Theo's earlier games, T...

Re: <waitkey> and the online runner

I've been using C for Continue and will be replacing all uses of <waitkey> in my main project with that. (After already establishing that all commands required you to press enter.) It sounds less awkward than telling them to click the command bar and would mean they were already there to type the le...
