EAMON text adventure/RPG system

I just found it the other day and I've been emulating it on my new Pandora with an Apple II emulator. It's remarkably interesting. I thought it would be fun to reconstruct it in ADRIFT 5, but of course, NO BATTLE SYSTEM IN ADRIFT 5 :<

It should be possible to do a custom battle system in ADRIFT 5. The real problem is the (probable) inability to transfer characters between games. (That could be worked around, either putting in a pre-chosen character, or maybe even have a program that generates modifies the .taf file to hold the adventurer, then runs an interpreter on that file.)

If you could reduce a character down to a code they could enter at the beginning of the game, then you would be able to bring in their previous characters. While you do have some flexibility with expressions in tasks, it could be a lot of work.

Except that part of the character is the names of the weapons carried. I don't think the ADRIFT parser can handle dynamic vocabulary.

It does sound like a lot of work to create a password-styled system, but it may be the only option for creating something like that. Especially reading the entered password, I cannot physically imagine how to make that possible with anything ADRIFT can do.

String building and string manipulation with expressions would be your only option to get it to work, though you'd have to be able to detect junk.

Well, I whipped up some Perl scripts to convert EAMON-PC files to Inform 6 and ADRIFT 5. It's just a first step towards a converter (a decent sized Eamon Library is necessary, and I'm not interested in writing it), but, if you're curious, the Beginner's Cave converted to:

I think rm probably meant an ADRIFT library to support the output above, e.g. to define the properties COURAGE, ARMOUR, AGILITY etc, and any tasks specific to the system.

I wish the battle system still stuck around personally. :/
