I'm not sure if I'd recommend 9:05 to a beginner; it's written assuming the player is familiar with IF conventions, so that it can subvert them.

80s IF tended to be more vast but shallow (lots of empty rooms, or objects that have precisely one interaction programmed). Modern IF tends more towards compact but deep (fewer room / object counts, but more interactions between them).
