If [character comes across] doesn't work

Postby Denk » Tue Feb 11, 2020 7:48 am

The walk-activity-restriction "If [character comes across] object/character" doesn't work. I have tested it both with objects and characters. In both cases, it doesn't work.

It would be really useful it worked, which is why I am bringing this up, even though the bug has been known since 2012.

Please upvote it here if you would like it to be fixed: http://www.adrift.co/bug/18524

I did some tests too and it sort of works but not in a satisfactory way. It seems to work if the player is in the same location as the walk character. So i guess it could only be useful if you have a character who is a guard patrolling around and sees an object held by player or the player and says something to triggers a task where combat might occur...

My demo is just a basic one where the object is a spade and another npc is present in the last location which Bob the walk test dummy is suppose to come across. I made some comments in the demo about findings as there was a couple more observations.

I guess that the bugged behaviour could be useful in some situations. But if we exploit a bug in ADRIFT, our game may not behave as intended once Campbell fixes the bug. So I prefer not to exploit any bugs which might get fixed. I mean, in this situation it is a bug in the runner, not the standard library. If it was a bug in the standard library, we could fix it ourselves.
