ADRIFT Wiki

Postby Campbell » Sun Apr 03, 2011 8:14 pm

I have created a skeletal Wiki, which I intend on filling with information about ADRIFT 5, which may eventually form the basis of the manual. I'm not sure how successful this will be, but one advantage is that everyone should be able to contribute towards it. I appreciate this is a bit difficult as no-one else knows what's inside my head, but there should be a fair amount of things that I just forget, or don't get around to putting down in documentation that would be of great help to others.

Anyway, you can access the Wiki here.

I really hope the wiki / manual goes into depth because I know I'm only grasping about 1% of what V5 can do!

If you need help scouring the wiki or writing simple stuff, just ask me.

If you need proof of my experience...

I hate to be the party pooper here...
But will there be a "prinatable" version too?
I'm that old kind of guy who likes to have the manual next to me...
I'm thinking something like the pdf V.4 manual?
D-Day V.5 in progress 79Kb so far (slowly getting there)
Anno 1700 in progress 111Kb

Yeah, I would think so. I think the main thing is to compile the information, then it should be relatively easy to put it into document form.

In the wiki I've created a section called "How Do I...? which will hopefully be filled with answers to common questions like: Create a locked door that can be opened with a key? Hopefully these will provide quick and easy answers so if you have a question, or an answer to a question, head over to the wiki and add it there. :)

I've now enabled uploading images, so we can start to pad out the pages with some helpful imagery.

I think you need some sort of spam deterrent for the wiki, if that's possible.

Yep, why do people have to be so sad as to muck things up like that.

Maybe what we need is approved author/editors for the wiki, taking highlights from here. It would be more structured.

If you see any Wiki vandalism, please revert the edit. The full history is retained. If there are more people using the site than abusing it, it should be kept in good order.

I notice there's a section called "How to make a lamp that runs out of batteries". it's just a place holder without any directions.
I beg of you not to fill it in. I never ever want to play another text adventure where my lamp runs out of batteries. Thank you!

I have moved the wiki onto a new server. This server will become the main one in time once I move everything across. It's a commercial server, which should mean improved uptime etc etc.

Anyway, if anyone has created an account, they will need to do so again. Apologies. For the forum etc, I'll be doing a database copy which should retain this sort of thing, but I figured it was easier to start from scratch with the Wiki.

On the plus side, I have restricted editing the pages until you have created an account and confirmed your email address, so that should cut down greatly on vandalism.
