Free Picture editor ?

Postby Po. Prune » Sun Apr 17, 2016 8:31 am

Can anyone recommend a good (easy and straight forward to use) free picture editor?

GIMP is a good, full-featured and most importantly, free picture editor. It comes with quite a few different filters and effects.

You can find it at:

If you are editing photos, there is also Paint.net: http://www.getpaint.net/index.html

There is also Krita, but it is more for digital painting and textures: https://krita.org/

I vouch for Paint.net that is a great little program and more user friendly than the GIMP. One thing to take note of when using Paint.Net if you have selected an area which the selection box/tool is active you have to move the selection box off the canvas and delete it (del button) otherwise you cannot use some of the other tools like draw etc. Paint.net has a nice layer tool system too.

If you want to cancel a selection, I believe Ctrl + D will do that.

I'll give Paint.net a go.
I don't need anything fancy, all I want to do is to crop and/or resize pictures, maybe remove "red eye" once in a while.

If that's all you need to do, then Irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/ can do that easily. I use it all the time. I will handle most image formats and can re-save them in other formats too.
