2016 Adrift End of the Year Comp. + vote

Postby Po. Prune » Thu Dec 31, 2015 8:31 am

I think it's time that Adrift moves up to its rightful place (amongst the best :yeah: )
So whether you like it or not there will be an "Adrift End of the Year" competition this year (2016)

1st prize: 20 usd
2nd prize: 10 usd
3rd prize: 5 usd

Prize money will be paid either through paypal or Amazon voucher which ever would be preferred.
Donations for prizes are generously accepted. and will be divided depending on the amount and the number of games entered.

The Rules of engagement is as follows:

1: Game must be written in either Adrift V4 or V5
2. Must be an original work.
3. Must be released in 2016
4. Judging will last a month (or shorter if we only get a few games, or longer if we get loads.
6. Authors are allowed to vote in the comp, but not for their own games.
7. Voting is on a 1 - 10 scale.
8. Games can be password protected or not. It's up to the author.
9. Voting will be anonymous, but voters are encouraged to state why they voted the way they did and write reviews
10. Voters aren't required to play all the games in the comp but it's recommended that they play as many as possible.

So, in fact all you have to do to qualify is write an game and release it. How easy can it get?

I realize that perhaps the competition should be run in 2017 in order to allow games released in December 2016 a chance. But but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Voting will end May 31st.

Even though the number of votes for this competition was very disappointing (there are certainly more than two people on the forum!), what about concluding on this competition and to make an IFDB competition page with the 8 entries to show the IF-community that ADRIFT is still alive?

Lets be honest ADRIFT is anything but alive.
Currently working on "The Blank Wall" in ADRIFT 5, "Word of the Day" and "Again and Again" in Inform 7.

I'm closing this topic... somewhat disappointed that no more people took time to vote. But I guess that's the way time is at the moment.
:thanks: Congrats to Larry for a first place and a shared second. And to Kenneth for the shared second place. :D

I agree, rotter, but while there are still diehards like myself still using ADRIFT to write their games, it ain't dead yet! I am getting far too long in the tooth to start learning to use something other than ADRIFT (e.g. Inform7) to write my games. IMHO ADRIFT is just so VERY easy to use. I tried QUEST but was astounded when I found that the concept of an object being part of another object was completely unknown in that utility.
OUT NOW: The Lost Children
Current W.I.P.: Magnetic Moon
Also available: The Axe of Kolt, The Spectre of Castle Coris, The Fortress of Fear, Die Feuerfaust - The Fist of Fire
