The 20 room adventure comp.

Postby Po. Prune » Tue Mar 22, 2016 6:56 am

Found this on Face Book.
Somebody is organizing a 20 room competition.
Might be worth a look.
Any takers?

20 rooms is quite a lot! (Well, maybe not for Lazzah...)

It says "within the confines of 20 rooms"
Being a foreigner I'm not sure if this means that the game can be up to 20 rooms, or that is has to have 20 rooms.

I'm sure it does mean up to 20, but it does set some sort of expectation.

IMHO, a text adventure with less than 20 rooms wouldn't be worth playing! :haha:

And there I've always been told that size isn't important...

Just had a message from the organizer-
Yes, the game has to have 20 rooms, and Yes :x You are allowed to update your game during the evaluation period.

I wouldn't really expect great things from this comp. The author's the same guy who's been spamming IFDB with oodles of poorly received games over the past few years (no less than 36(!) last year alone).

This is him if you're interested:

FWIW, anyone who's played his games will understand the 20-room thing. In his games rooms are just paths, often without anything - at all - in them; just the description and two exits. Occasionally three. In that light, the 20-room thing makes more sense.

I do like one of the replies from his Facebook page: "An author has to have a really good reason to include more than 20 rooms in their game."

Clearly someone with an extensive knowledge of the IF scene :)

Well, the fact that people are allowed to update (change) their game(s) during the judging period has made me lose interest.

That's just another of the negative aspects to the comp. I personally don't rate any comp very highly when the only person judging the games is the organiser, particularly considering the kind of games he seems to produce himself.

Let me rephrase that...

Gosh! My game has under 20 rooms at this point, and have been at it for seven months, when I started using ADRIFT.
