I can't give recommendations until the comp. concludes but I'll include a top 5 then.

Aside from Skybreak!, I've played Dark Grey, Sugarlawn, and Saint City Sinners.
I'll get back into it later this week probably.

The voting is closed and the winners will be announced Sunday on Twitch at 3:30pm Eastern, 12:30pm Pacific, 8:30pm in the UK and 9:30pm in DK ;)

I can imagine they will do like last year, i.e. present top 10 whereafter the full results will become available on ifcomp.org

Took a little sneak peek over at intfiction just now.
There's a thread regarding predictions of the top ten and I am happy to announce that it looks as if Skybreak is amongst them. :D
I realize that it's "only" a single swallow but I dare to hope that this will boost the interest for Adrift.
Let's hope ...

Thanks to anyone who entered the competition by the way.
Job well done.

IFCOMP 2019 is over. The top 10 are

10: Skies Above
9: Poppet
8: limerick heist
7: robotsexpartymurder
6: night guard/morning star
5: Heretic's hope
4: sugarlawn
3: chuk and the arena
2: turandot
1: zozzled

ADRIFT games this year placed as follows:

12: Skybreak!
53: Treasure hunt in the amazon
72: The call of the shaman

Skybreak! Also took the golden banana of discord, given every year to the game with the highest standard deviation. That is to say: Skybreak! was the game that had the biggest disagreement between judges. I've wanted to win this prize for years. It suits me. I am happy.

Big congrats to The0didactus!!! :claps: :bravo: :claps:
--------------------------------------
For the first time ever, an ADRIFT game wins The Golden Banana of Discord!!!

And...

"Skybreak!" is the best scoring ADRIFT game ever in IFcomp!!! A score of 6,71 closely followed by "A Fine Day for Reaping" from 2007, which had a score of 6,69.

And...

Considering the number of contestants, "Skybreak!" also has the best IFcomp placement ever: It placed 12 out of 82 (top 15%) followed closely by "The PK Girl" from 2002, which placed 6 out of 38 (top 16%).

Now we just need Skybreak! to win a Xyzzy-award next year, and the success will be complete ;)

I also liked Lazzah's "The Call of the Shaman" a lot. Not his best game but certainly a good one. I expected it to place higher - perhaps the bug some of the reviewers mentioned had a big impact. Or perhaps his games are too difficult for the average IFcomp judge.

"My own" game "Treasure Hunt in the Amazon" placed roughly as I expected. It is short and very old-school but I think it was the right decision to make the old-school challenges (hunger timer etc) optional. The fundamental game is not mine though but Niels Søndergaard's - I just translated it and added a few improvements. And the game wouldn't be the same without the drawings by Steffen Vedsted.

There were fewer judges this year - I expected more ratings than last year because online play was working (most of the time). Skybreak! had most votes - perhaps because the "Play Online" button at the IFcomp site was present for "Skybreak!".

Once again it was a great experience to participate! :)

I actually think The Call of the Shaman is my favorite Alaric Blackmoon game, just because the setting is so unique.

Hey congratulations to the IF Comp entrants. While the placings were not 1 - 2 - 3, they at least showed the IF world that good games CAN be made with Adrift too.

Congrats to everyone who entered. Shows there's life in the old dog yet.

I think that's been proved a time or two before actually as we have placed several games in the top ten. And, to be honest, I don't think the placings really show ADRIFT in a great light with two of the ADRIFT entries not even making the top 50, although I imagine the ongoing problems with the Webrunner didn't do us any favours. One of the reviewers on Int.Fiction, the one who voted Skybreak in his top ten, commented on the problems with getting the games to run properly.

I've got at least one more ADRIFT game in the works. We'll see if I can crack the top 10 before I have to go out and get a real job
