Suggestion re. Adrift main-site and Forum breakdown

Postby P/o Prune » Wed Jul 29, 2020 8:10 am

In light of the recent break down of the Adrift main-site and the Forum I thought of something.

I am in fairly regular contact with Campbell and can contact him if problems with the main-site or forum occurs.
If you guys are interested I will set up a group mail and if/when something like this happens again I will send e-mails explaining the situation and what's being done about it and when the error has been corrected.
:anyone:

I will use the email you have used when registering with the forum, so if you are interested in getting the updates, please make sure that your email address is valid.

Sounds like a good idea. Hopefully we won't have too many calls for its use, but it will help INFORM everyone before we get set ADRIFT.

Thanks P/o Prune.

PS. ANy update on the current main site's return?

Great idea, let's hope Campbell's hosting provider can restore the website soon.

I thought it was up and running again. I checked it yesterday on my cell and it worked. I can see now that it's down again, though. :x

The main site has been gone for some days and the forums were missing yesterday too. But they have returned now. The main site is just a white page for me.

Same for me the last time I checked. I have informed Campbell that it is still not working.

Sounds a brilliant idea, means we aren't in the dark about what is going on. Doesn't look good to the outside world but I don't suppose many have noticed.

Great idea. I will stop contacting Campbell and leave it to you so we don't flood his e-mail address. Just a detail which might be important: The main site was up for a short period and in the same period the forum was down. And online play has been down since the problems started. Just wanted to mention this, so they manage to fix everything, not just the main site and forum. The bug-list is down too but fortunately, the ADRIFT-wiki is still working.

Good idea P/o Prune. Do we need to PM you to get on this email list? or consider everyone posted here as wanting to be on the list?

For my part I consider everyone here wanting to be on the list (since all the postings has been positive)
If, for whatever reason, some people prefer to write me a pm, they are more than welcome.

Everything except Online Play is working now. :D

So perhaps you should give it a week or so, and if Online Play still isn't working, you could write to Campbell about it.

We still have http://vps730111.ovh.net/ for online play, Maz has been paying for it since the IFComp so you know, this a good opportunity for people to actually use it.

Maybe one of you could link it on the main IF forum too, for all those people that want to randomly play Adrift games. I'm sure it's a mob of thousands.

Online play is working again. Last year during IFComp there were problems but Campbell quite quickly fixed it several times until he found the problem so I guess it will work well this year.

Still it is good to have Maz' server too. Is there are way to use Maz' server to play the games when the game is lying elsewhere, or is it necessary to send the game to Maz first?

I highly encourage people to use this, because I've now paid maz for it.
We're gonna work out a longer-term solution here once I've passed the bar and secured a stable income, ideally mid-september.

Just discovered one important thing that isn't working:

You cannot download any games!

P/o Prune, will you contact Campbell about this?
