The Spanish Cross

Isn't it funny how inspiration for a game can come from the weirdest things?
I don't know about you guys, but I get inspiration from books I read, movies, or movie scenes e6tc.
The idea for the Spanish Cross came when my wife and I was watching Perry Mason one evening. Yes it's old, black & white. I doubt that most of the Drifters have ever heard about it. But it was very popular in the 50's & 60's (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Mason) Starring Raymond Burr, who would later become famous in the role of Ironside.

The background is this:
After his first journey to "America" Columbus had a cross made from one of the deck planks of his flagship Santa Maria. The would present it to the queen of Spain as a present, thanking her for her help making his journey possible.
On the way to Spain, the cross disappeared mysteriously and was never seen again.
This is the main theme. Now I have to work out the finer details...

This sounds really cool. I love historical games, I just never follow the urge to make them myself due to all the research involved.

If you're going to be including Columbus himself in the game, there are of course his own journals and those of people he was with as the most reliable first hand sources. Although gotta say, the dude was pretty nasty even by 15th century standards and it'd be hard including him as anything but an antagonist unless you were fictionalizing a lot. Which might not be the best idea for the IFComp, for a few reasons.

It will only be historical in the sense that I use the Santa Maria and Columbus as background theme. I do love history, though, and I love digging around and finding facts and stuff like that.
But thank you, by the way. :thanks:
You just gave me an idea for another game, and this will be historical.
