I'm playing with the latest v5 a lot lately. It's very promising and I'm sure once released there will be lots of new members here.

But what really bothers me is the question:

Do I really have to install .Net 3.5 to run a game? :oh-no:

I'd like to have my adventures deployed neat and small, like with Inform or tads. Some files, no installation.

So, Campbell :) I hope there will be an elegant and small runtime version without .NET and suchlike.
Cheers

Well yes, you do have to have .Net installed, as it's written using the .Net framework and cannot run without it. However, it should be using 2.0 which comes pre-installed on most new versions of Windows. It might be an incorrect check in the Setup program that is trying to install 3.5 - this shouldn't be necessary, so I'll check that for the next release.

Well that sounds a little better :-)

There's an adrift interpreter for the gargoyle IF runtime.
Do you think you could support the guy who created that for the adrift 5 version.
Readabilty is great.

My plan is to try to get Runner working on Mac & Linux using the Mono project. If that turns out not to be possible, I will probably make Runner open source.

Could you tell us more about the Mono project? What might be some effects of making ADRIFT open source?

Details here. The project is ever improving, covering more and more of the .Net Framework. I'll probably start looking at how viable this is pretty soon.

Well, there's a lot to think about if I made Runner open source. But to be clear, that wouldn't include Developer.
