Alternate room descriptions and VERBOSE

Postby phkb » Fri Nov 11, 2011 2:11 am

Not sure if anyone knows this, but there is a bug with the non-VERBOSE mode in ADRIFT v4 where alternate room descriptions will not display correctly if Verbose is not on.

Here's the setup:
Create 2 rooms (Room1 and Room2), with a directional join between them (say, north/south).
Create an object, call "Torch", make it dynamic, put it into Room1.
Open each room object and add an alternate description to each one:
- If "Player" is NOT in the same room as "the torch", then display "It's too dark to see."
- Make the Room description "Darkness"
- Start room descriptions with this one
- Hide objects in room.

OK, now when you run this, if Verbose is ON, everything should work fine. Move from the first room to the second room and, if you aren't carrying the torch, you'll get the right description.
Now, restart the game and turn off Verbose. Get the torch, then move to the second room. Everything is still fine. Go back to the first room, drop the torch, then go to the second room again. It should say "Darkness". Instead we get "Room2"

It appears that ADRIFT is holding the non-Verbose room titles in memory, separate to the real room description, and this isn't being updated with the alt room descriptions until you force the issue and type "LOOK".

Just thought some of you might like to know.
