Examine/open drawer

I have a task to open a drawer which will highlight various things and a key. it works and i can take the key or if i leave the room and return later the key is shown as part of the room. There is no problem here.
However if i try and open the drawer again; it won't let me. This is the format of the task:

a. Description shows 'I can see.......'
Additional message shows 'I can also see a key'
It can be performed in room...
b. Restriction shows variable 'key must be equal to 0'. If not to produce message ' I see nothing important here'.
c. Actions show (1) move key to room.... (2) change key to exact value 1
d. I have tried Repeatable and Not Repeatable.

Problem: The first attempt should make the variable 1 which means that the restriction
imposed should produce the message in b.

However - Open drawer produces computer message 'I can't open that'
Examine draw produces computer message 'I see no such thing'

Probably something i am completely over-looking. Your help please. :)

Further to the original examine/open draw.
I have noticed that this situation applies to more than one incident. It would appear that the computer is taking action on the variable in Restrictions the first time round. Second time round it notices the change in the variable..... but...... does not produce the message displayed with it.

Is this my problem or Adrift?

Further my last of Oct 28. It gets worse.
I have re-written the task open drawer to read 'I can see.....
I have made 'drawer' an object which starts off closed.
There are no restrictions, no actions, and it can be repeated.
I am still getting the same replies when i try to re-open the drawer more than once: i.e. I can't open that

How much simpler can the request be? Surely it must be Adrift!!

Can you go ahead and upload the file? And you're using ADRIFT 4 I assume?
