Ectocomp

Post by J. J. Guest »

Hi Everyone,

This is just to let you know that I won't be hosting Ectocomp this year - I have far too much else on! However if someone else wants to do the honours, I might find the time to enter!
Sorry to disappoint.

Not much activity hereabouts I see...

I'll host it again this year. Please consider Ectocomp open for all platforms with willing participants.

The rules: write an IF suitable to Hallowe'en in three hours or less. You can get a good idea of the spread of available topics by checking out previous year's entries. We've had a haunted forest house, spoofs on Dracula, a tales from an asylum, freaky trick or treating stories, post-apolcalyptic scenarios, you name it. It need not be horror, but in the spirit of the season it should involve some Hallowe'en element-- monsters, ghosts, fright, or the like.

A general note has been that the 3 hour restriction applies only to the actual coding of the game. You may plan for as long as you want, but as soon as you open your developer, start the clock.

Deadline for entries will be October 30th at midnight. This way people can start playing on Hallowe'en if they so wish. We will decide how long judging will last based on the number of entries received.

If you have an entry to submit, please send it to me at bowsman d (all one word, lowercase) at geemail.com (except without the e's). Thank you.

We already have one author who may be developing a game for Ectocomp. Anybody here having any thoughts about it?

I'm in! Been working on stuff for my job search, but a 3 hour Adrift Halloween game is just what the (witch) doctor ordered!

I'm definitely going to be entering with an idea for a game so good I haven't even thought of it yet.

Please welcome this year's Ectocomp banner...

Image

This year's banner is by Jacob Garbe, aka logodaedalus, whose hyperfiction I previously posted about here. :bravo:

Also, just a reminder that prize donations this year will be run in the same manner as IFComp's, that is, by donation. Authors will pick the prizes they win from a pool of potential prizes. Anyone can donate-- authors are encouraged, but not required, to do so. I will be donating a Cthulhu action figure with pose-able tentacles.

I thought it wasn't specifically an ADRIFT comp?

Btw, I've added basic competition info to the Adventures page. See here for last year's comp.

I've decided to keep the word ADRIFT on the banner as an indication of the competition's roots in our community. Also, as I plan it, this is where it will initially be hosted, z-code games and all. If there is some revolt against this naming, I will ask the artist to change it, but for now it will stand as it is.

Shouldn't this be in Competitions? Took me a while to find the details.
