Text Adventures

Postby Campbell » Sun Sep 02, 2012 10:26 pm

I've been struggling to get ADRIFT to appear on Google when searching for the term "text adventure", so I have registered the domains http://textadventure.org and http://textadventures.org. I don't know if it will help at all, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to why it only appears several pages down the results.

In fact, I just trawled thru 43 pages (848 results) of the search term "text adventure" and didn't see ADRIFT mentioned once. Confused... :?

Your Google page rank is partly dependent on people linking to you. If you aren't using the phrase "text adventure" on the pages much, and people don't often use "text adventure" around when linking to you, then you won't be very high on the list.

Also, you've only had textadventure.org and textadventures.org for a few months, I doubt many people are linking to them, and I don't think Google puts much stock in words in the domain name.

Maybe if everybody on this forum does a google search for "text adventure", then changes it to "text adventure adrift" and clicks on the ADRIFT entry, it might get the hint.

Interesting. This forum page now appears on page 7 of Google when searching for Text Adventures! Shame the main site doesn't.

Well, I made a few changes to the main site, and it's now appearing at #20 in Google results. Hopefully it will continue to creep up, but at least it's visible now.

Have been making a few changes, and we're now up to the top of page 2. Just one final push...

Hurrah, finally on page 1 (assuming you have 20 results per page). Currently at #14 on Google!
