Your unused concepts!

Postby MatthewMob » Fri Sep 20, 2013 6:00 am

Hello ADRIFT users, I'm Matthew, a new user to the ADRIFT forums.

Here's an idea,

Remember, all the great ideas that you've had for games, but have never been able or never had the time to finally produce? If you can still remember them, post them here! Maybe other developers can build on your concept or turn it into an actual thing! It will be a great way to spread new ideas flowing within the community. And will get rid of writers block (Or programmers block, :) )

99 ways to die (The Suicide Game?)

*Anyone who has played IF has met an untimely death, and sometimes very unexpectedly with no apparent reason. What if the tables were turned? What if the point was to try and die? What forces that be would prevent you from accomplishing your goal? Intended as sick and twisted humor.

Andrew Plotkin did something similar to that ages ago as "Inhumane".
As Campbell mentioned, David Whyld did that is "Back to Life, Unfortunately".

Beats me. KF and I used to talk about doing it years ago...and then we kind of dropped of the face of the earth for a while. I'm sure a lot happened during that time.

I had an idea once where the player explored a deadly planet by piloting 'organic copies' of themselves around. Basically they'd transfer their consciousness into a cloned body...and then another, and another, and another, as needed. (Or maybe robotic copies instead if I could ever think up a good name for them that abbreviated to R.E.D.S.H.I.R.T...)

Right now I'm mainly interested in the idea of incorporating open ended 'simulation' type stuff into a game though...between Mystery's pirate sim and Duncan's space trading idea obviously I'm not the first one to think about trying it, but as far as I know no one's ever actually released anything similar.

Lumin's idea sounds like Rogue Moon.

This reminds me of the old Silly Game on raif. People would send in descriptions of objects, and somebody was going to try to work them into a game.

Lumin's idea sounds a lot like the Doctor Who episode "The Rebel Flesh" -- which doesn't mean to say it isn't a good idea for a game!
