Day / Night scenes ?

Postby P/o Prune » Sun Jan 01, 2012 2:16 pm

What do you think would be the easiest?

I'm working on a game in which there's a day night cycle. The problem is that although the player is in the same surroundings there are slight changes to the various locations. For instance; two locations are merged into one, and where player can go North in the day time, that exit is blocked in the night cycle. Etc.
My question is whether it would be simpler to just create two different "worlds" and have the player transferred there when the night cycle starts, or should I try and use the alternate description option which is available in V.5 and write the night scene there?

If the player can drop things, making two different worlds is going to be a bit of a headache. Alternate descriptions should be enough. Blocking that one exit could rely on the same variable that controls the alternate descriptions. Make the default descriptions the daytime descriptions and then in the alternate put in the night description and put it to Start Description With for its behavior and you should be set once you create an IsNight = to true type restriction for it.
