It's still an entertaining read, though, even knowing the ending. My faves from the Code of Conduct:

If you make other people uncomfortable on our forums, especially by mistake, apologize, or say nothing.

So if you make someone uncomfortable without even realising why, you have to apologise. Especially if you've no idea what you've done wrong.

Avoid subtle -isms. These are small things that make others feel uncomfortable, things that we all sometimes do by mistake. For example, saying "It's so easy my grandmother could do it" is a subtle -ism.

Which is in no way patronising. At all. Not one little bit.

And the best bit

Don’t argue about civility on public channels. Don’t defend yourself, don’t defend others,

So if someone's uncivil to you, you're not allowed to defend yourself, and if someone else has people being uncivil to them, you're not allowed to defend them either. Classic.

I haven't attempted a Twine game

To (sort of?) steer the discussion back on track (or maybe not? what was the original topic again?) I just want to point out that I lied here. I actually did start two Twine games awhile back; one was a South American flavored fantasy game about escorting a caravan of supplies to settlers, and the other was a superhero adventure. I reread what I had a couple weeks ago and it didn't make me immediately delete it in disgust or anything so maybe I'll go back to them someday.

Still, the issue with Twine for me is I always feel like I'm using it wrong. I basically just write stories with branching paths. As a reader that's the way I like my CYOAS, big epic stories like this over trippy little game-hybrid things with lots of hyperlinks and scripts.

I guess I'm just sort of concerned I'll actually finish a Twine game someday but no one will be interested because it has too many words to comfortably read on a phone?

God I really do feel so old sometimes.

I think a big epic story could work in Twine, but only if it had a proper save game facility. I certainly wouldn't want to read / play through the thing in one go and I wouldn't want to have to restart each time to check out different story branches.

I was talking with a friend about creating my own text adventure, and he told me about TWINE. I knew almost instantly it was so rudimentary in its features that I'd be better off programming my own game from scratch. Fortunately, I Duck Duck Went "text adventure creator programs" and found Adrift. It is the perfect tool to make you get right down to CREATE the adventure, and not be caught up programming everything!

I've also heard of Twine being used to prototype games written in other systems. (Most recently, for room 15 of 18 Rooms to Home.)
