And the second game of 2019 is posted, anyone played it yet?

Yes, I have had a quick go at it.
To be honest I'm not impressed.

Very basic location descriptions. Missing object descriptions.
Basic command not implemented. Ie. The old rusty lamp: Light lamp, doesn’t work. Turn on lamp does.
Object descriptions very bland. >X lamp: Old rusty lamp, which doesn't do much to set an atmosphere.

The duck outside the cave entrance:
Trying to >Read message: Sorry, I’m not sure what object you’re trying to read.
>Read duck works. It’s mentioned in the description of the duck that “Perhaps you can read this duck”, but read message should have worked too.

I haven't gotten any further. It's not a game that makes you want to hang on.

Out of curiosity, I just downloaded this to see what it's like. Yeah, it's not up to much. The game can't seem to decide whether to refer to the player as "you" or "the explorer"; the images are way too big and I keep having to scroll down to get past them; the writing is very basic with no effort made to try and flesh it out at all. I'm not even five minutes into it and I'm ready to give up.

"A project for Coursera course" I have no idea what a Coursera course is. ( I tried to google it without success)
But if this is some kind of school project it could explain the poor quality?

it is very clearly a student project, and I say good for them! This is exactly the sort of experimental stuff Adrift is good for making. I haven't played it yet but I'm gonna.

I Googled Coursera and found https://www.coursera.org/

While it's nice to see a game from a new author, it's disappointing that most of the time this happens it's the same buggy thing over and over again. Very basic descriptions, obvious commands not working, etc. I know first games are seldom masterpieces, but part of me despairs whenever I see how flawed most of them are.

Unless we can put an icon on the game indicating that this is a "first timer" or an "educational" (what do I know) on the main site, I can't see how we can avoid these unfortunate games.
When I first saw the game it looked interesting and appealing (not appaling rofl ) that I wanted to play it.
I can easily understand Adrift getting a lousy reputation when people are experiencing this kind of quality games.

The obvious solution is to write reviews but looking back at the review history I find that very unlikely

Adrift has no kind of reputation at all, it is obscure and obsolete. No one looking for interactive games will find it with a search and its a struggle to even share the games those rare times they do. I'm glad a kid found it and was able to use it for their school project and I hope they had fun.

Sad, but true. Lack of new games, and lack of any kind of updates, has left ADRIFT with zero reputation these days.

Which is a crying shame considering how active things used to be around here: games coming out regularly, a forum full of discussions, new members joining every day, etc. There was a time when I even thought we might get some proper recognition from the RAIF crowd (I know, I know, probably a pipe dream...)

How the heck did things end up like this?
