Revealia

Postby Denk » Thu Apr 25, 2019 3:03 pm

I don't know if I am ever going to finish this game, but perhaps posting here will motivate me :) .

Working Title: Revealia

The story so far:
You are a poor carpenter in Brue City in the kingdom Revealia, who suddenly loses his workshop after vandals have burned it down to the ground. After you have recovered, you decide to be an adventurer searching for treasure and hopefully, you will stumble upon some important quest, which will bring meaning into your life.

The game has 3 difficulty levels:
1. Hard (no potentials)
2. Medium (potential to be either Mage, Warrior or Thief)
3. Easy (all three potentials, i.e. the player may both become a warrior, mage and thief during the same game)

There will be no random combat in this game. If there is combat, it is basically a puzzle to be solved. There will be day and night and a money system.

The game takes place in and around Brue City. There are a Guild of Mages, a Guild of Warriors and a Guild of Thieves. Depending on your potentials you may or may not obtain quests from these. As you can probably imagine, you will at some point stumble upon what could be called the main quest of the game. Once you have solved the main quest, the game is over.

This sounds really neat, and seems like you've already made some good progress on it. Always like to see someone experimenting with things beyond just the traditional kind of IF, and games with replayability or that require some kind of strategy are much more likely to catch my interest these days.

Thanks for the feedback.

Having this thread seems to keep me productive.

That's a giant map already and that task number has gone way up, I'm pretty excited to see where this goes. I was into MUDs before I ever discovered IF, so simulating a fantasy kingdom was always one of my pipe dreams when I first started using ADRIFT.

There has been some talk lately about how many plan to make huge RPG's in ADRIFT, which are never completed. Thus I guess it is time for an update on my ADRIFT RPG, which I might not finish either.

Revealia is a nonrandom RPG, i.e. nothing in the game will be random, not even combat. So it is more like a puzzle to beat an opponent.

I know that it is impossible for me to make a huge RPG. I simply do not have enough ideas to make it huge. Thus I try to reach a minimum of quality quests so that the game will still be a challenge even though there are not so many quests. I am actually considering cooperating with those interested, in case they would like to contribute with ideas for side quests which fits with the storyline (they would, of course, be credited as co-authors). That will probably require that I describe the game in detail at the forum including spoilers, so I have not decided on doing that yet.

The game is intended to be as detailed as other quality IF out there.

Here are some of the things which are planned (some of them done):

* A big city with shops, guilds (guild of mages, thieves and warriors), houses and surrounding areas including forest and village [partly done]

* 3 difficulty levels, i.e.: [done]
1. Easy (potential thief, mage and warrior)
2. Standard (either thief, mage or warrior)
3. Hard (no potential as thief, mage or warrior)

* At one point in the game, it may be possible to change your potential, depending on which difficulty you chose to begin with [done]. The harder the game, the more points you will score when you solve a puzzle.

* I have so far planned five quests including the Main Quest, of which I have implemented three. Some quests can be completed no matter your class (thief or mage or ...etc...) whereas others are reserved for a certain class. More quests are needed. [WIP]

* magic potions [WIP]

* magic system [WIP]

* The game includes the ADRIFT time system with night and day cycles [done]

* ADRIFT Money system included [done]

* An advanced conversation system with numbered choices and removal of choices when they are not relevant anymore. [done]

Status:
* 83 locations
* 61 objects
* 441 tasks
* 23 Characters
* 10 Events
* 63 variables

I still hope I manage to finish it since I am happy with what has been done so far, but I am lacking inspiration at the moment... :(
