Re: A Return to Positivity

The issue with the Runner is one that people have mentioned for years but it’s never been fixed and I doubt it ever will be. As a player it doesn’t affect me because I’ll never use it but as an author it’s a real problem. In this day and age when every other system seems to have an online runner, it...

Re: A Return to Positivity

I realise I’m way too negative about Adrift most of the time. Sure it has its problems and I’ve never warmed to v5 the way I did to v4 but I’ve seen enough of it to know it’s a decent program in its own right. For all the charms of Inform it’s never really appealed to me in the same way that Adrift ...

Re: Other systems?

The thing I don’t get is that Lilith’s post was completely harmless and yet you’re acting like there’s something suspicious about it. Comments like she could have Googled an answer don’t help. Everyone on here is guilty of starting threads about subjects they could Google just as easily and it’s not...

Re: Other systems?

This thread reminds me of Intfiction. Someone asks a harmless question and they line up to bash them for it. Before you know it they've been brandished racist, sexist and probably a deviant to boot. Instead of bashing them for asking a question, why not give them the benefit of the doubt and just an...

Re: Other systems?

Am I missing something here? Someone asks a harmless question about other IF systems and almost every response so far has been complaining about it. That’s not exactly newbie friendly.

Re: How to see full map?

Adrift used to be a program that anyone could pick up and just start using and it makes me a little sad every time I'm reminded that's not the case anymore. I think that’s the main issue with it these days. V5 might be light years ahead of what v4 could do but it’s a lot harder to use and a heck of...

Re: How to see full map?

I've never liked the v5 map. It might look nicer than the one we had in v4 but it's never worked as well, it's fiddly and confusing and I'd be a lot happier if there was an option to disable it altogether. For years I've been hoping it'll be improved one day to make it worth using, but it never seem...

Re: Will we rule the IFDB?

I haven’t paid much attention to Intfiction for years now but with the way things go over there, I don’t think I’m missing much. It’s a shame it’s ended up like this though. In the early days it was a nice place.

Re: Will we rule the IFDB?

The irony being that they go on at length about fairness and making people feel welcome, yet the way they act is worse than out and out discrimination. And they don't even seem aware of it. Mad but then I suppose some of the Nazi party genuinely felt they were in the right.

Re: Unwinnable situations?

I played plenty of IF games back in the day which put me in unwinnable situations. While I didn't quit because of it I can't say I liked them much. There's nothing more annoying than trying to beat a puzzle for ages only to realise you can't because you messed up earlier. So I'm quite glad that unwi...

Re: Will we rule the IFDB?

I'm still here, making slow progress on the way to recovery. Hopefully it won't be long now till I can get back on my computer and finish the game I was planning to enter in the ifcomp last year.

Thanks guys. I'm now back at home and starting 6 weeks of recuperation. Hopefully when this is done I'll be back to normal.

Re: Saabie

I'm due to be released on 3rd October so hopefully things will return to normal then.

It's awkward typing because I only have my left hand and I'm right handed so it takes forever to type anything. So I'll be holding off typing much until my right hand is better.

Re: Saabie

This hasn’t been a good year for drifters. I’m currently in hospital having suffered a stroke a few months ago and while I’m likely to make a full recovery there’s no chance of finishing my ifcomp in time. Hopefully next year will be a better one.

Re: Crazy idea?

I'm happy to contribute - testing, proofreading, general suggestions - but don't rely on me too much. Most of my game ideas never make it past the initial "isn't this a great idea for a game?" stage and the rest are probably better off forgotten. I'm actually quite chuffed with myself for finishing ...
