Re: Coin system

I m sorry to open a new topic. No problem - that is what we are here for. I m making my first IF and I would like to create a systeme that would allow the player to earn money and to spend it in shops. Is that possible ? When you install ADRIFT, it is already equipped with a money system, though it...

Re: New text adventure jam - tutorial and accessible to kids

Whether people like the rules of this competition or not, the resulting games are pretty fun if you like short easy-to-medium classic text adventures (2-word-parser). So far I have played six of them. None were horrible and some of them pretty good! :claps: You still have 15 days to vote: https://it...

Re: Browser

I have started writing on ADRIFT and would like my friends to be able to play it from their browser (so they don't have to install ADRIFT). Is this possible? Yes, if you upload it as a taf-file or blorb-file to the games section. Playing online has some disadvantages but in most cases it is ok. You...

Re: Spanish games

Welcome, First, in my reply below I assume that you want to make Spanish parser games, i.e. a game where you type commands. If you are simply making CYOA-games (choice based games) it is very easy to do that with ADRIFT in any language. The Standard Library has only been translated to Italian and Da...

Re: P/o Prune's mini competition

I am still working on mine, but not finished. I wouldn't complain if you added an extra week  , which perhaps those nearly finished or would like some more time to bug fix/polish their entries in the meantime. I'm ok with it. But what do the other participants think? I have been working on...

Re: Change location descr. from light to dark?

Inspired by Lumin's post, I was reminded that you can also in a text box use the tag: <wait 5> (or another number) followed by e.g. <cls> which clears screen. <wait 5> means "wait 5 seconds" and you can of course change the number. The bad thing about this solution is, that the player cannot type wh...

Re: Change location descr. from light to dark?

Certainly. Do you mean realtime seconds or just a number of turns? Or perhaps the light should turn off right after the location description has been given? In the latter case, all you need is a system task which is set to run when the player enters the location. In the actions you add the location ...

Re: Other systems?

Everyone, let's keep in mind that many authors use more than one IF tool. It should be perfectly fine to touch upon other tools too in the ADRIFT sub-forum "General IF". I can only speak for myself, but I haven't abandoned ADRIFT even though I have made a few games with other IF tools. No one preven...

Re: A Return to Positivity

Good post Lumin :D

Despite the quirks and limitations of ADRIFT, I can say that ADRIFT is the IF tool I have most FUN using. I have tried using other tools, but I just don't enjoy writing games as much as when I am using ADRIFT.

Re: Popular Games...broken?

In the meantime if we're approaching it with the attitude of putting the best foot forward to new players, my point was just that we have this spot of prime real estate that can display any 10 games we want. Okay, I see your point and it makes sense. But I think we should get confirmations from eac...

Re: Popular Games...broken?

Maybe it could be called something other than Popular Games. If you read the list it mentions Sophia or Wisdom defined. Now, I played that game and I was absolutely not impressed. So in my opinion it shouldn't even be on a Popular Games list to begin with. I agree that it might be a good idea to re...

Re: Popular Games...broken?

The reason I don't like fake downloads is, that I think most authors would like to have an idea of how many times their game has been downloaded. I know it may not always reflect real people but also web crawlers etc. that try to get an overview of the website. Still, for comparison, I think we shou...

Re: Popular Games...broken?

Okay, so now that we know how it works...what games do we want to be displayed there for new people to see? Seems easy to control barring unforeseen interest in a particular game from outside sources. But I think we can all agree Give Me Your Lunch Money and a newsletter from 2012 doesn't really be...
