Play Online Error

Post by rotter »

I uploaded a V5 version of my game "Pathway to Destruction". Helpfully when I try and play online it reports the following error. Anyone any idea what this means?

Code: Select all

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Could it be something in the converted game, perhaps?
I tried to play JaFT online and had no problem doing so.

I've found out what the online runner didn't like. The game was prompting for gender. Thanks.

I am also having this error but only when I upload new games:
Server Error in '/' Application.
Runtime Error
(and more)

Games that have been on the site for long works well when I play online.

Could anyone try to upload a single room "demo" just to confirm that the online runner doesn't work for new uploads?

You could try the demo I uploaded, which only contains one room, to see if it works for you: https://www.adrift.co/game/1610

P/o Prune, if other people can confirm this, I think it would be good if you could contact Campbell and let him know that the Online Runner doesn't work for new games. With the mini-comp being announced soon on intfiction (probably tomorrow) and since I will submit to parsercomp soon, it is quite important that this is working for new games again.
Thanks :)

I have written Campbell and told him about the problem.

Go ahead and send your game to me anyway. I will hold them back until the matter is solved.

The play online function is still not working.
You can, however upload games. So I am uploading the zipped file to the Adrift Main Site, under the competition menu.

I am glad that you put it up under competitions. Then perhaps after the comp you can award medals like in "the old days" ;)
(I wasn't around ADRIFT then, but I think the use of medals is a great idea like here: https://www.adrift.co/comp/5 )

That is my idea. Once the competition has ended, I will upload each game individually, or have the author do it. I am not sure that the author will be awarded the medal on his profile if I upload his game. I will have to look into that.

I have never made a competition, but just want to let you know the feature "create a competition", see screenshot below:

Any news from Campbell about fixing this? Do we know if he is looking into this?

As ParserComp is now open to submissions, it would be good if online play was working too.

No news regarding the online play.

I will write him again.

I'm checking with Maz whether that backup of the online runner that he made still works.

And it might be good to check that again closer to the IFComp, just in case.

I was wondering if Campbell knows that the problem only occurs when you upload a new game? He might have just clicked on some random game and saw that online play works for that.

It would be good to know if Campbell is working on this problem.
